Helping Your Kids Prevent Chapped Lips

As the weather gets colder, chapped lips become a problem. Kids also suffer from chapped lips. This is why you should care for them to prevent it. Toddlers still using a pacifier are more prone to chapping. Prevent chapped lips by following these simple tips:

Give lots of fluids

Toddlers need up to 5 cups of fluid daily. This doesn’t apply to only water. They can sip on healthy beverages like fruit juice and milk. Foods with high moisture content also count. Soups and fruits such as watermelon can do the trick as well.

Stop the licking

When your child’s lips are dry and rough, it will encourage licking, and this leads to wetting and chapping. You can always remind your child to abstain from licking. Remove the temptation to lick by using a neat, soft-bristled toothbrush on the lips to buff them smooth.

Hydrate the home

If the air in your home is dry, install humidifiers. Place them where the child sleeps and plays. Be sure to read the instructions on how to clean the humidifier. Don’t forget to place it beyond the reach of kids.

Apply lip balm

Lips are prone to UV rays damage so keep the child’s mouth moist. Opt for a beeswax or petroleum lip balm with sunscreen. Apply the balm from time to time, so it doesn’t dry out and lead to chapping.
