Working from home is now very common with parents. Although this seems like a great idea, it actually presents a very unique parenting paradox.
Whether you just work part-time or full-time, you may have chosen this type of career so you can still be close to your kids.
But a lot of times, it’s also hard for kids when their parents work from home. This is especially true for younger children, although it can also affect older kids. This is because the home is their comfort zone and it’s where they spend time with the family.
So when the parents work from home, children may feel rejected. Think about it, when you’re working and your child needs attention, will you give it willingly? Chances are, you’ll prioritize your job which will make your little one feel like you don’t want to be with him/her.
Fortunately, there are some things you can do to reduce the negative impact this has on your child. For one, you can ask someone to bring your child to the park or to the museum while you finish your tasks at home. If your child is a bit older, you can also talk to him/her, explain that you need to work for a couple of hours then you can spend time with each other after.
