Teaching Your Infant to Communicate

Your baby’s speech will develop without you having to influence it. However, you can teach your little one to speak faster. Some tips include:

Setting a special time for communication practice

You need to talk to your child for at least thirty minutes. It could be during bath time or meal time. Maintain eye contact during this process and say short sentences. Wait for a response. The response may be imperceptible, but it helps teach the baby how conversations flow.

Talk in a natural melodic manner

Infants learn faster when you use a singsong to convey words. This melodic manner helps them decipher words and understand sentences. It is also fun to listen to.

Imitate the baby

Repeat what your baby says all the time. You are not encouraging the baby to continue with the baby talk. However, you’re showing that it is fun to talk and that people will always respond when it speaks. Don’t force your child to say certain words, just wait for it.

Shower with praises

Babies love being praised and respond positively to it. When your baby speaks, no matter how inaudible, praise it for the effort. Avoid negative statements at all costs. It can affect the baby’s self-esteem in the future.
