It is always exciting to hear baby’s first words. All parents look forward to it. You can help your baby to develop a solid speech foundation by following these tips:

Start by talking

The first rule is talking to your baby often. It doesn’t matter if the baby is old enough to speak. Just remember that the baby can understand what he hears. You can tell him how your day went, your plans for the day and more. These will help the baby get used to words.

Music and books

Kids love being read to. Start a reading routine with your little one. This is an excellent way to help them love words. Music can also help in this regard. Use sing-song nursery rhymes and age-appropriate CDs with words that are easy to understand.

Listen

A conversation must go both ways. You need to listen to your baby’s attempts to communicate. This can help build his conversational confidence. It may not always be speaking; it can be body language or facial expressions.

Developmental milestones for babies

  • At age one, the child will be able to understand and speak two words.
  • At 15 months, a baby’s vocabulary increases to ten words and they can understand simple commands.
  • At 18 months, kids have up to a hundred words and can start creating sentences.
  • When the child is three, he will be able to hold conversations with the people around him.
