The post School Or Skip: Does Your Child Need A Sick Day? appeared first on ourdailybaby.com.
]]>Such a situation calls for some very quick thinking. To send them to school, or not to send them to school? That is the question. Fortunately, there is pretty much a five-point checklist of major symptoms that parents can go by to determine if their child can tough it out or if they need a sick day.
Fevers are a big red flag. If your child has a fever of over 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit, then they should stay home. Even if the fever seems to break, it needs to stay away for at least 24 hours before returning to school should even be considered.
If your kid has thick mucus paired with a loud, harsh cough, you might as well pull out your nurse hat. Be mindful that sometimes a cough will linger with children. However, if you notice that it’s not getting any better after a few days, it might be time to make a doctors appointment.
Vomiting and diarrhea are definitely symptoms that warrant staying home. Make sure they’re drinking plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration. Stomach bugs are very contagious so you want to ensure that you’re not sending them back to school too soon. A good rule of thumb to go by is to keep them at home at least 24 hours after their last eventful trip to the bathroom.
Dry patches, rashes, and other skin conditions can be difficult for you to diagnose as serious or not. Get in contact with their doctor right away to have them make the best call on that. Pink eye though is a whole different ballgame. It is easy to diagnose considering the biggest symptom is waking up to your eye crusted shut. If your child has pink eye, definitely keep them at home! It is very contagious.
If your kid is in obvious pain or major discomfort they need to stay home from school.

]]>A baby wipe with preservative is the best option for your baby’s safe cleaning routine. These avoids bacterial and mould growth. However, care should be taken to not use wipes with overflowing preservative amount as it might cause allergic reactions.
Several baby wipes contain alcohol in different forms. Though alcohol might produce effective cleaning properties, they are never safe for your baby’s skin. Using wipes with less alcohol content or alcohol in other forms like phenoxyethanol or benzyl are somewhat safe.
Some manufacturers promote their wipes displaying the USP as fragrant wipes. However, baby wipes with fragrance do not make any difference to cleaning purpose. And since fragrance might be in the form of a chemical substance, it is advised to choose non-fragrant wipes.

]]>Always be precise and consistent about what you expect while the child waits. When waiting to cross a road, tell the child to stand away from the edge, look both ways twice before crossing, or look for the road crossing sign.
When your child has to wait, engage with them in a way that makes waiting for a game.
Don’t bribe the child for waiting or they’ll always expect a reward for ordinary behavior. Rather make what comes after the wait a reward in itself, such as play-time.

]]>Lay the garment on a flat surface and gently scrape what you can off the fabric with a bristle brush (an old toothbrush will do). Then, cover the remaining stain with bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) and after a few minutes, pour some club soda on top to create a fizzing effect before adding to the washer.
Gently scrape away the excess before covering the stain in any liquid laundry detergent, soak in warm water for about 20 minutes, remove from the water and apply a stain remover if you have one. Wash at a high heat depending on the fabric.
Rub the stain with dish soap before thoroughly rinsing the area under a warm tap, apply a stain remover and wash on the highest heat the fabric can tolerate.
Remove excess with a tissue and cover the stain in a liquid detergent, soak in warm water for 30 minutes before adding to a hot wash.

]]>Here are some ideas to add to your routine to help your child feel loved:
Always listen when your child tries to speak to you. Maintain eye contact and show that you are listening. Be enthusiastic about the discussion even if it is about something you have heard a million times.
Hug your child and kiss his/her on the cheek regularly. Such physical contact helps promote bonding between you and your child. It will also reduce the development of low self-esteem, behavioral and psychological problems
When it comes to praising the child, quality trumps quantity. Always let your child know that you are proud of them for the effort. You should not praise the child for everything, but be sure to recognize something the child does out of the ordinary.
Allow your child to help with house chores. Also give your child an opportunity to teach you some things, let them set the table or take out the trash. They can even walk the dog. Be sure to thank the child when they teach you something new.
Your child can keep you company while running errands. Invite them to join you for a ride. Having her tag along may slow you down, but it is always worth it.

]]>Some major transitions include using a sippy cup, changing beds, using underwear instead of diapers, starting preschool and eating by himself.
Always be consistent with your routine to avoid confusion. Develop a plan and stick to it. This will make the child’s transition easier.
Praise the child when performs well. Kiss and hug your child for small successes. Sometimes, add a small reward to remind the child that you appreciate its efforts.
Tell a story to encourage the child because this will empower him/her to accomplish the milestones. You can also read a book that applies to the situation.
Tantrums should be expected especially if the child is extra cranky. Anticipate the triggers and remove them ahead of time.
Handle the transitions one at a time, don’t rush. Only modify one behavior before moving on to the next. It makes the entire process less overwhelming for the child and less stressful for you.
Kids watch your every move and follow your actions and not words. Demonstrate proper behavior, and he will follow suit.

]]>The cleaning list can be long, but there are some jobs that children really get a kick out of doing! Pass the torch to your young ones and let them lend you a helping hand with some of these easy cleaning jobs.
Vacuuming can be fun for any age. For younger children, have them use a lightweight vacuum to go over hardwood floors and/or tile. Older children can throw on some headphones with their favorite music and knock out all of the carpeted areas.
Dusting with tools like a Swiffer or feather duster can be really fun and easy for children. They’ll be amazed at the dust they pick up and that visual lets them know that they’re doing a great job.
Folding towels and rags are perfect for children wanting to help out with the laundry. Once they’re good at folding those simple shapes they’ll be ready to fold their own clothes. It may take some adjustment, but once they get the hang of it they’ll feel a sense of accomplishment.
Emptying the trash and replacing the bags are quick and easy tasks for little ones. Plus, they can find it fun to sort recyclables into the recycling can.

]]>Most babies start trying to stand when held upright at the tender age of 5 months only. They will try to support themselves and bounce a bit. This early age activity will motivate your child to start standing on their feet early.
Encouraging crawling by putting toys away or calling you baby from a distance will improve stamina of your baby and will make him enthusiast about independent movements.
Feeling the ground will help your baby learn to balance. Shoes hinder this process of learning.
You must know when to hold his hand and when to leave the baby free for a while. Being always around is crucial to keep the baby safe. But letting the baby move independently sometimes will encourage him/her to learn walking.

]]>The post The Secret To Making Your Kids Actually Enjoy Their Homework appeared first on ourdailybaby.com.
]]>Does your child have a favorite fictional character or favorite show? Make homework speak to their level by bringing in fictional characters to serve as the people in the question. For example, if your first grader is struggling with adding 5 and 3, you could tell them that Mickey Mouse has five apples and picks three more apples, and ask how many Mickey now has. When kids feel a connection to what they’re learning, they’re more likely to enjoy learning.
Not everyone learns the same way. If the way that’s being taught isn’t speaking to your child, try presenting the material in a different way. You could try acting out a history question and letting your child place themselves in the shoes of a historical figure. Or in science, if the subject can be replicated, try a controlled experiment. Basically, if the obvious solution doesn’t work, try a creative (and safe) solution.
Your child is the one learning and doing the work, but you can make them feel like you’re working on the problem as a team. Without doing the work for them, you can nudge your child toward the right answer by asking the right questions or helping explain why something is the way it is. It will go a long way toward convincing your child that you’re in this together.
