On turning six, children tend to move towards bigger and bigger independence as they have increasing need to engage in activities without mom and dad. The birthday parties are becoming a thing and the play dates as well.

For parents, it can be a little hard to accommodate to their child’s rising need for independence, but they should understand why it’s so and help their kid go through this stage of its life. These are the main characteristics of a 6-year-old’s behavior and routines.

Sleep

Your six-year-old kid will need at least 9 hours of sleep at night and the best option is if it can have 12 hours. This can be a little bit hard for a parent who needs to re-organize the overall daily routine in order to let his kid sleep as much as it needs.

Chores

Your kid will be more capable to handle various responsibilities, both at home and school. This period is very important for your kid’s personality development, so give him a good responsibility orientation.

Diet

When it comes to dinner time there’s no more messing around and your kid will be able to sit still and even talk with you about some things and even evaluate the taste of the dinner you prepared.
