As infants, our every need is seen to, so it’s not surprising that when they get older, children find it difficult to wait and be patient. But learning patience is one of the most important lessons a child can learn. As children, we have to wait our turn to play with a toy, or for dinner time. But learning to wait can also save a child’s life. Learning to wait to cross the road safely is a hugely important lesson. So how do you teach a young child to wait? Read on for some ideas …

Be consistent

Always be precise and consistent about what you expect while the child waits. When waiting to cross a road, tell the child to stand away from the edge, look both ways twice before crossing, or look for the road crossing sign.

Make it a game

When your child has to wait, engage with them in a way that makes waiting for a game.

Reward the wait

Don’t bribe the child for waiting or they’ll always expect a reward for ordinary behavior. Rather make what comes after the wait a reward in itself, such as play-time.

Homeschooling, like many other things, has its pros and cons. Have you been considering homeschooling for your child? This article will highlight various pros and cons of homeschooling.

You can choose the curriculum and set flexible teaching times

One of the key benefits of homeschooling is the right to choose the curriculum your child goes through. You also have the advantage of choosing when the study is to take place, and for how long it does.

Safety

In Public school system, there are common cases of bullying. Bullying has devastating results, which affects the sufferer physically and emotionally. In homeschooling, the student is protected.

Rise in productivity

It is estimated that in public school system, there’s one teacher for every 20 -30 teachers. Whereas, for the homeschooling system, it is one teacher to one student. This has shown improved productivity in the students who prefer homeschooling. In fact, study shows that students who school at home perform well on standardized tests, are successful in college, and as well succeed as adult employees.

Some cons of homeschooling include:

Poor social lives

Children under the public school system get to relate with numerous students every time they are in school. This develops their social lives. On the contrary, students enrolled in homeschooling are more introverted. As a result of staying indoors for long, they have fewer people to interact with. This affects their social lives in a negative way.

It is usually expensive

Unlike public schooling system, homeschooling is usually expensive.

Hands-on parenting

Even though children are loved by their parents, being with them for 24 hours/ 7 days could be stressful. This is so because, as a parent, you need to be with them all or almost all of the time. If being around your kid all of the time will be too stressful; you may have to reconsider your decision to homeschool.

All children need to learn manners, but it doesn’t always need to involve a lecture. There are some fun ways you can teach your kids etiquette without any eye-rolling involved. Read on for a few ideas.

Setting the table

Give each child a full set of cutlery and crockery, including soup bowls, bread plates, coffee cups, and all the cutlery that a meal of several courses will require. Give each child five minutes to arrange a proper setting.

If you have a large group, you can divide them into two competing teams.

Role reversal

At the dinner table, reverse roles between adults and children. Allow each adult and older child to do something that is obviously bad manners, and let younger children call out what they’ve done and why it’s rude.

Etiquette charades

Write down behaviors that are thought of as ‘bad manners’ and ‘good manners’ on small pieces of paper. Fold the papers and put into a bowl. Divide the group into teams, and have them take turns at drawing from the bowl.

Once a slip is drawn, the child must act out the behavior. The opposite team first decides if the behavior is good or bad, then guesses what the action is.
