When your child’s lips are dry and rough, it will encourage licking, and this leads to wetting and chapping. You can always remind your child to abstain from licking. Remove the temptation to lick by using a neat, soft-bristled toothbrush on the lips to buff them smooth.
If the air in your home is dry, install humidifiers. Place them where the child sleeps and plays. Be sure to read the instructions on how to clean the humidifier. Don’t forget to place it beyond the reach of kids.
Lips are prone to UV rays damage so keep the child’s mouth moist. Opt for a beeswax or petroleum lip balm with sunscreen. Apply the balm from time to time, so it doesn’t dry out and lead to chapping.
