When summer vacation here, kids rejoice and feel the need to use their free time to its maximum. This can lead to discipline problems and it’s very important that you set the things straight before they get out of control.

These are the possible ways to get your kids to know that the rules are rules, no matter which time of year it is.

Establish household rules

By creating household rules, you’ll stop the chaos that can happen during the summer vacation. Summer can be also a great time to update your existing rules based on your child’s needs and behavior.

Create a structure for your children

The structured schedule of the school day must be replaced with the structured schedule of the vacation days. Your kid can easily resort to misbehavior if its days are not well structured. A kid can get bored when having nothing to do during the day and that can be the direct cause of misbehavior.

Create a reward system

Reward systems can be very effective while addressing your child’s behavior problems. Identify your kid’s positive behavior and reward it for such a way of conduct.

As parents, we all want our kids to grow up to be well-disciplined. But sometimes, the process of disciplining children forces our hand. But no matter how you look at it, discipline can cause trauma to children.

Because of this, researchers, child advocates, and even physicians believe that discipline is not really necessary when raising children, Instead, there are zero discipline methods parents can use to get their child to cooperate.

The Kazdin Method

The director of the Yale Parenting Center at Yale University, Dr. Alan Kazdin came up with this method. He believes that punishing kids is actually counterproductive and it won’t lead to the positive behaviors parents desire. With this method, you teach your child how to act appropriately through simulation rather than rather than by reprimanding.

In Chapter 5 of my book, The Call to Love I begin to discuss some of the parenting strategies we use in our home. I don't think parenting can be done in a cookie cutter, one method works for all parents, and all kids kind of world. So I believe it is important for each parent to determine what will work for them & this kiddo, in this season of life. ……….. This week's blog post is paired with Chapter 5 from the book, focusing on more information re The Kazdin Method. Which you have totally heard of, even if you think you haven't. (Link in bio) …………. Peaceful Parenting

Dr. Laura Markham suggests that the key to parenting is to base your relationship with your child on warmth, mutual respect, and love. Do this instead of forcing your child to see you as an authority figure he/she must obey.

In all honesty, I’ve found myself doing the counting thing lately because my husband did it with our 6 year old, and it worked! But I thought, what am I teaching him here? Yes, I can count (which has no natural or logical part of the request). Yes, I can threaten and manipulate to get faster results. But there’s no connection and no communication about the importance of my request. It’s all about me getting what I want and no understanding towards my son at all. It feels empty and controlling. (And btw, it does not work on my 3 year old- she just laughs and wonders what the counting is for. 😳😂) #Guidance, #empathy and #connection take a bit more time, but have a positive long term outcome! 💜 • • • [Quote: @parentingconnection Original Image: @_lyndamenard_ – thank you! ] • • • For more #gentleparenting_memes inspiration, go to www.gentleparentingmemes.com #BEthechange #Normalizegentleparenting #Normalisegentleparenting #parenting #gentleparenting #peacefulparenting #parents #babies #toddlers #children #attachmentparenting #positiveparenting #respectfulparenting #naturalparenting #consciousparenting #parentingbook *Pls respect the work of the authors, photographers & creators, do not crop or edit memes when sharing. ©Gentle Parenting Memes

Positive Parenting

This method came from the field of positive psychology. It’s built on the concept of nurturing a child’s abilities, strengths, and talents rather than trying to correct their flaws.

Unconditional Parenting

Alfie Kohn created this method and it focuses on offering your child unconditional love no matter how he behaves or what he does.
