]]> Even if our children are little angels, you’ll probably be confronted with other people’s badly behaved children at some time or other. Here’s how to deal with them.

At home

If your child’s visiting friend behaves badly, this is one time when it’s safe to have a word with the child about their behavior. Always be kind but firm. If a child swears, you can tell them that that sort of language is not permitted in your house. If they don’t comply with your requests, take them home or call their parents to fetch them.

At restaurants

If you are at a fine dining establishment and there are children present, they’ll probably have been taught how to behave. If they transgress the rules, then the restaurant will take action.

If you’re at a family restaurant, go to a quiet booth away from the crowds of noisy kids. If you’re still bothered, ask discreetly to be moved.

At shops

If you’re bothered by unruly kids at the mall or grocery store, try to feel empathy for the parents. They’re probably more embarrassed and irritated than you, so don’t say anything.
