It is not possible to shield your kids from various competitive situations, and you should not do so. Kids learn life lessons that come in handy as they grow.

Some important lessons they learn include:

How to win and how to lose

A child can learn to be a good winner as well as a good loser and not a sore one. This lesson is crucial for a developing child. It helps them outgrow temper tantrums when they don’t get what they want. The sooner the child learns this, the better. This is because it can be difficult to teach these basic things when the child is older.

The importance of following rules

Toddlers don’t always understand how rules work. This can give him an idea of the concept. When everybody makes their own rules, playing together becomes difficult. When your child learns this, he will have more fun while playing with other kids.

The value of putting in effort

It doesn’t matter if the child wins or loses, it is ho he plays the game. Despite losing, a child can feel good about how much effort he put in. Also, the winner may realize that the victory was also possible because of the extra effort. When a child is exposed to such challenging situations, the concept becomes clearer.

When kids focus only on winning, they may see themselves as failures when they do not win. Even if they come off victorious ninety percent, they won’t be satisfied.
